Net-30 invoicing for print and manufacturing: how terms really work
What Net 30 means on a print or manufacturing invoice, when the clock starts, early-payment discounts, deposits on large runs, and what happens when an invoice goes late.
Business customers of our printing, manufacturing and logistics companies are invoiced rather than charged at checkout. The terms on the quote decide when that invoice is due. Here is how RBS Huttegem LLC, RBS Laplaigne LLC and RBS Rouen LLC run it.
Net 30, from when
Net 30 means the invoice is due 30 days after the invoice date. We invoice on delivery or shipment (not on order), so the 30 days start when the goods leave. An invoice dated the 5th is due on the 4th of the following month. New accounts may start on deposit-and-balance terms and move to Net 30 after a few clean invoices; approved accounts with a purchase order get Net 30 from the start.
Deposits on large runs
Large print runs, custom manufacturing orders and anything with non-returnable materials carry a deposit stated on the quote, typically a third to a half of the order. The balance is invoiced on shipment on the account's terms.
Early-payment discounts
Some accounts are offered a discount for paying within a shorter window (for example 2% if paid within 10 days, otherwise net 30). The discount and its deadline are printed on the invoice; if you pay within the window, deduct it; if not, pay the full amount.
Shipping and tax
Shipping is estimated on the quote and billed at actual carrier cost. Sales tax is charged where required unless a resale or exemption certificate is on file; send the certificate before the first invoice.
When an invoice goes late
Balances more than 30 days past the due date accrue 1.5% per month (or the maximum allowed by law), and we may pause scheduled work or hold shipments until the account is current. Reminders and statements go out before that point; a quick call usually resolves it.
Paying
Invoices come by email from the company that did the work with a secure link to pay by card, ACH debit or bank transfer; checks are accepted payable to the company named on the invoice. Your statement shows that company's legal name. Terms are on the payments and invoices page; for an account application, contact us.
